The AFL make a lot of money from their media which is why they do it. EG play one of their shows and a corporate bookie ad pops up in a pre-roll.
@rtralphy Just can't warm to her, don't know why the AFL need to pay for so many so called journos when the money would be better spent on grassroots footy . There is enough media without the AFL having so many .

What makes no sense - if there's a suspension - is what clearly could have occurred is the ball bounces into Steven May's arms and away from Francis Evans. The "lacked duty of care" idiotic argument fails to take into account AFL is played with an oval ball.
Fact check me with Steven May and Francis Evans: . 1 & 2 ball clearly in dispute and both players clearly beelining it. 3 & 4 ball bounces into Evans arms meaning he gets it a literal split second b4 May & clearly on his angles baulks into May with no brace

How could Kate McCarthy equate this to Steven May lacking a duty of care? It’s a football accident. Not possible to eliminate them entirely, only mitigate them through cracking down on reckless acts and the “choosing to bump” crackdown. This is neither.

Best way to root a club is to treat great players like commodities. How’s North Melbourne gone when they chopped Boomer, Petrie & Firrito because it looked good in a power point presentation? St Kilda similar with Brendon Goddard, Nick Del Santo & Ben McEvoy.

The elite smaller blokes from Robert Harvey, Johnny Platten, Anthony Stevens, Crawf, Jeff Farmer, Cyril Rioli etc all would have learned to use their bumper bars as juniors before they got to AFL level or they wouldn't have got to AFL level.
@rtralphy It was that way in the 70’s & 80’s. Then they cleaned up the proper elbow & charging offences. 90’s footy was the peak. It’s all about technique and it’s really poor from Evans and May to a lesser extent, he’s just lucky he’s a bigger guy. Same height and they clash heads.

That was my initial reaction last night. No chance players of 10 years ago and further back approach the same contest the same way.
@rtralphy How about Evans uses his duty of care (to himself) to protect himself. It’s all because they are told not to bump and/or brace for contact. Leave yourself wide open. Create dumb rules, win stupid prizes.

Kate McCarthy on AFL wrap says May “did beeline the ball” but didn’t use duty of care at collision. That makes no sense just because Francis Evans gets there a split second first as Evans approached it in exactly the same way?.
Has anyone who has been out there state Steven May should be suspended for what he did & what the basis of his actions for suspension should be, rather than be suspended for the outcome of the collision?. Francis Evans factually turns into him with no brace.
