What A royalist officer wears, the final layer: Arms and armour. Consisting of a Cuirass breastplate, an officers Spontoon and a sword. The spontoon as well as been a symbol of rank could be used as a conventional halberd/spear.
What A royalist officer wears, third layer: initial protection. Consisting of a sleeveless buff coat, offering flexible protection to the upper thighs and shoulders.

Also when you charge your pike for horse you also have to lift it well above the riders head for the same reason. This can look massively inaccurate too as it defeats the whole point of a pike block. However it is 100% necessary for the safety of the horse and rider.

Cont: I think the only ever time I’ve seen it done 100% accurately is by larpers, as they have foam tipped pikes so it’s easier and safer to do so.

Cont: Much more controllable. However i don’t recall ever doing push of pike for a demonstration, only ever for a battle reenactment/training, so I can’t quite comment on this particular case. ⬇️.

I feel as though I should throw my hat in the ring here. After taking part in the “push of pike” the main reason it is used is for safety. Those pikes can be hard to control when in the charged position, and could do a lot of damage if taken to the face. Doing it this way is ⬇️.
