Our mini-review highlights how basic science insights are relevant for developing approaches to treat water balance disorders and how long-term cell volume adaptation may contribute to cognitive impairment, bone loss and vascular calcification.

ABSTRACT. Water homeostasis is controlled by a brain–kidney axis that consists of central osmoreceptors, synthesis and secretion of arginine vasopressin (A

Check out this in @Kidney_Int. We show that NHE3 is important for Ca handling, but that the distal tubule compensates when NHE3 is inhibited by eg #sglt2 inhibitors. A team effort >9 years @RiegTimo @h_dimke @Adri_in_Aarhus @fenton_lab and others 👏🥂🙏.
Genetic deletion of the #kidney sodium/proton exchanger-3 (#NHE3) does not alter calcium and phosphate balance due to compensatory responses. #OpenAccess @AarhusUni_int @USFHealth

Check out this issue for some excellent AQP articles. All originating in some form from the hugely succesful AQPS2022 meeting in Copenhagen sponsored by the Benzon Foundation.
Our latest issue is out now! This issue is our "Aquaporins in health and disease" #SpecialIssue!.The featured cover image comes from Mack et al., which shows the transition from ependyma to choroid plexus in the human brain!. 📖

22 years ago I published paper 2 of my research career in @AJPRenal, now it is paper 202, and happens to be AJPRenal. Support Society Journals! .Regulation of the water channel aquaporin-2 by cullin E3 ubiquitin ligases | American Journal of Physiology
journals.physiology.org
Aquaporin 2 (AQP2) is a vasopressin (VP)-regulated water channel in the renal collecting duct. Phosphorylation and ubiquitylation of AQP2 play an essential role in controlling the cellular abundance...

Fantastic new study from @mrins01 et al. on broad spectrum SGLT2 effects.
Our study on metabolic communication by SGLT2 inhibition is now online @circaha. We describe how SGLT2 inhibitors provide metabolic kidney and heart protection, by systematic analysis of early and off-target effects of the drug across metabolic organs in the same mice.

Sorry to be missing #KidneyWk this year, but had the pleasure of teaching about the urinary concentrating mechanism, the principle of mass balance and explaining the concept of countercurrent multiplication and the passive model to undergraduates…someone has to do it 😉😉👍😎.

Finally, 18 years after starting @HealthAarhusUni we managed to set-up a relatively up-to-date lab website! Check it out: If you like what you see, drop me an email as I have an open postdoc and PhD position available.
