Language matters in patient engagement for joint replacement. 🦵🗣️ Our research found significant disparities in pre-op education & PROM completion. 📝 More support needed for non-English speakers! Thank you @OfficialJAAOS. Grateful for the teamwork. #orthotwitter

Excited about our latest publication! AI falls short in enhancing the readability of Spanish-language orthopedic PEMs. Grateful for all the team effort! Thank you @Clinorthop for sharing our work. #orthotwitter
🌍 Health equity starts with accessible education! 🏥 AI struggles to improve the readability of Spanish orthopedic materials while maintaining accuracy. More work is needed to create culturally appropriate resources for non-English-speaking patients. https://t.co/VfBOqXXrp5

On my overnight ED call yesterday, more than 50% of the patients I cared for were Spanish speaking only. Being able to bypass the need for an interpreter streamlined their care and helped create quick rapport. Better language access leads to better health outcomes!

I'm deeply honored to have Dr. Navarro write a #CORRInsights from our paper, emphasizing the critical need for further research in this area. @BoneDoc95 #orthotwitter
"It is clear from Busigo Torres et al. that to fully assess this area, the definition of limited English language proficiency must be standardized," writes Ronald Navarro in a #CORRInsights. "Of course this will take time & a bit of bureaucratic advocacy."

In a systematic review, Busigo Torres et al. found that patients w/limited English proficiency were less likely to complete PROMs or use patient portals, and more likely to experience longer hospital stays & nonhome discharges. #healthequity #orthoTwitter

Had a fantastic time presenting at @southernortho1! Our project highlighted disparities in TKA outcomes in Puerto Rico🇵🇷 compared to the US mainland, potentially due to reduced healthcare funding as a US territory. Grateful for the support from my mentors. #SOA2024 #orthotwitter

Sleep can be vaccine for sports injuries 💤 In this study adolescent athletes who slept less than 8hrs per night were 1.7 times more likely to sustain an injury than those who slept >8hrs. How often do we ask about our athlete's sleep? Not enough I reckon...
