Four years ago, I first ran for City Council because I saw the ways our communities were too often ignored by people in power. Today, I’m proud to say I've stood by my promise to be a voice for the people and to organize alongside you. Donate today -> https://t.co/HY3O37tK4X

Residents don’t care to see police riding on taxpayer-bought motorcycles for photo-ops. They deserve transparency, protection, and a trustworthy public safety system. Spending nearly $20 million over-budget is irresponsible, and I look forward to increasing accountability.

This is a clear (and recurring) case of mismanagement by Mayor Frey and Chief O’Hara. When departments are given a budget, it’s their responsibility to manage it.

MPD blew through their budget this year… and for what? Women of color like Allison Lussier and Mariah Samuels died after MPD neglected them. MPD left victims of racist violence like Davis Morturi left without answers. Amir Locke’s murderer promoted to use-of-force training.

And crucially, we strengthened oversight of the city budget in response to Frey’s failure to implement crucial programs and to curb overspending that undermines basic city services.

We expanded funding in immigrant legal services and supporting child care workers to keep child care costs down. We undid Frey’s cuts to sidewalk plowing and halted his attempt to defund emergency housing and wraparound social services for our unhoused neighbors.

We made continued investments in tackling the traffic calming project backlog, repairing sidewalks to bring them in line with the ADA and added more protected bike lanes.

We allocated funding to step up where the private market has failed to ensure all our neighbors have access to affordable, healthy groceries. We’ll be launching a Non-Fatal Shooting Task Force to reduce gun violence–modeled after St. Paul’s incredibly effective program.

On Tuesday night, our City Council unanimously passed the 2026 budget! The budget now heads to Mayor Frey to sign. All 12 of my budget amendments passed successfully.

Ward 2 is proudly home to thousands of students. No should have to be in fear from ICE as they walk to class and wrap up their finals. Thank you to Augsburg University President Paul Pribbenow and staff for standing with students.

I’m horrified by the abduction of an undergraduate Augsburg student by ICE over the weekend. ICE pointed guns at students and staff and refused to produce a warrant despite being on private property.

It’s up to us to fight for a world where no one fears that they’ll be ripped away from their family: 1- Get plugged into your neighborhood rapid response network! If you see ICE, call the Monarca hotline to report it at 612-441-2881. Save this number in your phone.

Kids are terrified to go to school. Sick people are dying because they’re scared to go to the hospital. Local businesses are shuttering because our neighbors can’t risk going to the store. And all of us are less safe with masked secret police roaming our streets.

All of us do everything in our power to keep our loved ones safe, whether we’re born here or moved to make Minneapolis our home. But before our very eyes, Trump is ordering his masked secret police to kidnap our immigrant neighbors and terrorize our communities.

Mobility and accessibility doesn't need to be a seasonal privilege in Minneapolis. Whether you're waiting for the bus, walking to your car or just trying to get to the store down the block, sidewalk plowing would make our winters safer and better for everyone.

On Friday, City Council voted to undo Mayor Frey’s cuts to our sidewalk plowing pilots because the return of winter shouldn’t mean risking slips and falls on icy sidewalks every time it snows. Safely getting around our city should be a basic function of our government.

Minneapolis can say no to big tech corporations thinking they can ignore our regulations to pad the pockets of their billionaire owners. Early next year, I look forward to advancing the strongest possible oversights that put workers, community, and accountability first.

This sudden move echoes Uber and Lyft’s entry into our city a decade ago—when the lack of political will by city leaders led to years of playing catch-up to establish regulations and essential protections for workers. I have no intention of repeating those mistakes.
