A guy with a 24/7 protective detail and door to door chauffeur says: “Leave your gun in your car.”.Gun Control is rooted in racism, and modern gun control has a disparate impact on marginalized communities. Telling pedestrians and public transit users to disarm ups the ante.
wut. ---. Walz clarified that he’s not proposing legislation to limit guns at the Capitol, just that he’s putting “it out there.”. “No one is talking about taking your guns away,” Walz said. “Just leave it in your car if you’re going to come in this building. We do that in.

Some great news for a Monday.
Now here’s a picture MN can celebrate. State Senator John Hoffman discharged from ICU today after being shot numerous times during assassination attempt. His family tells me he’s moving to a rehab facility and still has a long road ahead. @kare11

"The Capitol should remain genuinely open and accessible, allowing citizens to freely exercise both First and Second Amendment rights without onerous restrictions. Effective security measures and robust constitutional protections are not mutually exclusive but must coexist to.
SVP @robdoar in the Strib: Don’t rush into mandatory screenings, metal detectors or gun bans at the Minnesota Capitol.

Worth a read if you're interested in the original understanding of birthright citizenship. Whatever one’s view on modern immigration policy, the text and historical record of the Fourteenth Amendment make clear that children born on U.S. soil to foreign nationals are citizens.
@ttrain4086 That’s consistent with jus soli, the common-law doctrine (as Howard stated was "law of the land already") which any person born within the sovereign’s territory was a natural-born subject, unless born to a foreign diplomat, a hostile occupying force, or a member of a sovereign.

"A state may not impose a charge for the enjoyment of a right granted by the federal constitution." — Murdock v. Pennsylvania, 319 U.S. 105 (1943).
In what might be a new record, San Jose, CA says the fee for an initial CCW will now be $1,443 (not including the cost of the psychological exam and training):

Pre-1964 argument being recycled:. "Poll taxes make elections safer and reduce risks to the power structure. Until now, poll taxes have been effective because current law has successfully stopped the vote from falling into the wrong hands.".
Gun silencers make shootings deadlier and put law enforcement at increased risk. Until now, silencers are rarely used in crimes because current law has successfully stopped them from falling into dangerous hands. If the House votes yes on this bill, America will be more.
