The sc̓e:ɬxʷəy̓əm is one of the most productive k̓ʷsic̓ streams for its size in the Lower Fraser Valley. Through bank stabilization, removing invasive species and planting trees and shrubs along the sće:łxwәýәm, the Foodlands program is creating a robust riparian habitat.

Some populations of k̓ʷsic̓ are anadromous and spend summer months feeding in coastal waters before returning to freshwater. Unlike salmon, k̓ʷsic̓ are able to spawn multiple times, and their spawning season (late winter/early spring) is approaching now.
