1/ for my 30th, i built an insane scavenger hunt in nyc for some friends! it involved an arcade, actors & more - here's a thread on what happened and how i pulled it off :). first, i mailed everyone a wax-sealed invitation that had a secret message that revealed itself with heat

7/ finally, we ended with a normal afterparty. definitely one of my favorite nights :) . here's a post with the behind the scenes: i'll probably try to do a larger-scale open to the public version of this eventually . s/o to @gkoberger who helped a ton

6/ saved the hardest for last: i made an arcade game and put it in Barcade! I had an actress outside handing out "comedy flyers" that actually had a secret code you had to input to unlock a secret level that had some fun trolley problems and photos/videos of past memories :)

5/ third: "time travel agency" where they made time capsules for me w/ a casette recorder, polaroid camera, & markers/paper. each group decided when i can open theirs so i have some events to look forward to! i also gave them time capsules with memorabilia from our friendship

4/ the second location: a coffee shop where when they ordered a specific drink, the barista did tarot readings. but for one person in each group she ended their reading with "i'm getting a sense that your family misses you" and produced a handwritten letter from their mom or dad

3/ the first location was a record store and each group had to find a custom vinyl record that i had made. they played it and it was a recording of me saying how i've enjoyed the concerts we've gone to together. then a musician came in with a guitar and played a short set!

2/ at that address, i split everyone up into 4 groups of 8 people each (to keep it more intimate) and handed each group an envelope. Each envelope contained a riddle taking them to one of 4 locations, and then I rotated the groups so everyone got to experience each location

today i learned MCP isnt even a fucking standard, the schema OpenAI accepts is different (but a subset of) what Anthropic accepts so an MCP server built for Claude sometimes (but not always!) can’t be used with OpenAI. I hate it here.

trying to build something using OpenAI models with Claude code is mildly hilarious bc Claude will constantly try to switch back to anthropic models, especially if you try to do anything with MCP even if you’ve explicitly told it otherwise

why hasn’t anyone made a resy mcp server yet - clearly it’s possible with the number of bots sniping resys.

tried to get an OAI agent to use an MCP server to look things up, it’s only used the MCP for the first few things then it would start guessing?? Edited the prompt to use the MCP for every entry, didn’t work. got it working by making it output a “used_mcp” flag for each entry 🤷🏽‍♂️.
