Essex town voters approved a 22% property tax increase Tuesday, according to preliminary results provided by Town Clerk Susan McNamara-Hill, on the first Town Meeting Day since Essex Junction separated from the town to become its own city. #vtpoli #tmdvt

The $15.4 million budget is a nominal decrease from last year’s budget but will be supported by a significantly smaller tax base than previous years, after Essex Junction split off from the town.

The Vermont Senate has taken the unconstitutional position that it can shut out reporters from committee meetings and do the public's business behind closed doors. Seven Vermont news organizations, including @vtdigger, have signed this letter calling on lawmakers to let us in.

when i spoke with someone from DCF earlier today, the dept was still processing applications… out of the 1600 vermont households enrolled in the GA program, about 1350 had shifted to transitional housing. (renews in three month blocks for more stability.) story to come @vtdigger
