Listened to this podcast recently and Saunders says something to the effect of: the big and difficult thing about your story you’re putting off fixing — that IS the story. And I think that might be the best piece of writing advice I’ve ever heard.

Did what I’ve heard people refer to as “the work” on this piece and absolutely devastated to report it has indeed yielded results in the form of an acceptance from a literary magazine. I need time to process this new information.
Two quick rejections on a flash piece to remind me that kooky and quirky nonsense is no substitute for character development, conflict, desire, plot and all the other **actual writing** stuff that takes way longer and is much harderer to do 😖

Wrote a new piece I was pretty happy with, sent it to two of my favourite lit mags. One I was quietly confident about and the other, I thought hmm…might be a bit of a stretch. Anyway you can probably see where this tweet is going…they both rejected me.
