Given the enormous range of publishers on the web, this benefits large existing publishers at the expense of both smaller publishers and newer voices in journalism. Now is not the time to stifle innovation and reduce access to a broad range of voices.

They would effectively have to make decisions about which content to include on the basis of licensing agreements. Today, more than 80,000 publishers show up in Google News. The draft Directive takes away a publishers ability to control its own distribution, its own destiny.

We built Google to provide everyone with equal access to information. Article 11 changes that principle. This means that search engines, news aggregators, apps and platforms have to put commercial licences in place and decide who can be easily accessible and who can't.
