It's not a lack of will to fix it, governments are actively part of the problem. I'm pro regulation, the state should promote open standards and open access through a combination of incentives and regulatory safe guards. What we have instead is lazy, counter-productive.

Couldn't agree more. Have been forced to hand over personal data to people I simply don't trust to keep it safe more times than I can count, and have paid the cost more than once. PKI is the right way to do identity, ZK proofs can help maintain privacy. If we don't get smart.

I don't think ad's need to be invasive. Current models creepily stalk users, but this does not need to be the case. I posted the below in response to a @cryptofundst post some time back. You can have ads without stalking and privacy invasion. Saito fixes this:. Advertising.
According to @iab, users prefer free + ads. We're revolutionizing networks, but we're not denying reality. Saito supports both ad-driven monetization AND full privacy - letting developers innovate and users choose - not forcing one model on everyone.
