Not wanting a fight but "assumpt" in the 16c. is not necessarily equivalent to the dogmatic use of Assumption re: Virgin Mary. E.g., "He was assumpte to the state of cardynal" (1503). Or, "Jesus is asumpt, or taken away into heauen" (1570). I.e., all Christians assumpt to heaven.

Seneca (Ep. 88.45) says that some forms of philosophy sacrifice the res for the sake of the verba, a precursor to Nietzsche's "philosophy has become philology." It got me thinking that this is a good summary of a lot of modern biblical exegesis and preaching.
