9 August 1961 | UK applies to join the EU. Accession Talks started in Nov, but the application was vetoed by De Gaulle's Gov. in 1963 -as a 2nd one in 1967. It was only in 1969 that green light was given. UK joined the EU in 1973 and left in 2020. #EUHistory ๐ช๐บ๐ฌ๐ง #OnThisDay
