Grant 11! @emilyjacobs & @caitaylo In the US, ~1.4 million birth control pill users are aged 15-19. Despite their wide usage, little to none is known about their neuronal impact on the developing brain. This neuroimaging study seeks to investigate this link for the first time!

Grant 10! Mengwen Hu The ovarian reserve defines the female reproductive lifespan. Unfortunately, ovaries age fast with many deemed geriatric by 35 yrs. This study explores unknown chromatin changes and proteins that initial research points to preserving a healthy egg supply!

Grant 8! @PepinLab & Marie Meinsohn Even pre-birth women start losing their eggs. The AMH is the only known hormone to inhibit follicle activation. This team wants to develop drugs that mimic AMH by targeting its receptor (AMHR2) for clinical uses from contraception to aging!

1/ Solutions to the climate crisis are already here. But they're stuck in academic labs. Often, after the basic science is done, there’s just a little more work needed to show the science has commercial potential. But no one funds this! Introducing Manifest Climate!

Technologies to model early mammalian embryo development in vitro have advanced rapidly, providing new insights into self-organization and environmental control. @BernaSozen_ and I wrote a review as part of a special issue on #earlyembryonicmodels: https://t.co/F8o9WaxTcJ (1/3)

Grant 7! @samdowland & Kirsten Shankie-Williams Copper IUD is the only non-hormonal, long-acting contraceptive available today. But they can cause cramping and be painful at insertion. This team is developing a new category of contraceptives using advanced biomedical materials!

Grant 6! @norahfogarty9 Healthy pregnancy relies on the functioning of the placenta. By generating patient-specific trophoblast stem cells, this research aims to develop better disease models for studying conditions such as preeclampsia which currently have no treatments.

Grant 5! @JosBowles & Michael Piper Is NFIX the new female-specific master regulator? Previous studies have shown NFIX's role in neural development & spermatogenesis, but no research has been done in the female context. Studying NFIX can aid our grasp of diseases like PCOS/POI!

Until now, only a small portion of toxicants have been characterized due to limited biomonitoring methods. Excited to see this team change that and hopefully very soon inform policy for better health outcomes for us all!

Grant 3! @robinson_lab_UCSF & @TraceyJWoodruff There is growing evidence that environmental exposures to chemicals contribute to preterm birth. The @UCSF team will use a novel approach to profile maternal blood for thousands of environmental chemicals in high-risk communities.
