A core driver is that all citizens benefits when violent civil disputes in their community are resolved, even if you don’t agree with the legal approach or outcome. We found positive reputational effects from the courts even among ethnic minorities and women.

The academic article, using a version of DiD to estimate the causal effect of Taliban courts on clashes related to civil disputes, public opinion and insurgent activity, is out at International Organization.
