I first attempted this experiment in 2011 when we were still at LSU. Did it for real in 2015 and 2016 in CA. Now it’s finally published it from Germany 12 YEARS LATER. Thanks for the patience @whitehead_ja !.

New paper out with @whitehead_ja ! We looked at reproductive isolation between fresh and brackish populations of killifish. We found reproductive isolation, but not reinforcing assortative mating inferred from parentage analysis of > 2000 offspring.

a very appropriately timed paper given the conclusion of our @SMBEmeetings on Evolutionary Rescue that ended today.

This all suggests that combined acidification and warming form a non-additive, synergistic, selective pressure, showing how multiple stressors make predictions of responses tough. And acidification isn't even stressful alone!.

But! The combined response was also unique from either warming or acidification.

there was also almost no overlap in the response to selection between acidification and combined conditions. But the combined response was highly overlapping with warming (~40%).
