Our lab has just returned from 3 wks in Curacao resurveying our monitoring sites during the ongoing coral bleaching event. Despite the heartbreak of witnessing the reefs' deterioration and the loss of century-old colonies, there were also hopeful signs of recovery and resilience

@kepra3 gave a killer talk to close out the last session on coral dispersal and our relatively sparse knowledge on the subject so far! Interesting negative trends between coral dispersal distance and densities in mostly Caribbean environments! #AMSA2023 #TeamCoral

We assembled a chromosome-level Acropora hyacinthus genome, then used it and other samples to come up with a new hypothesis on how coral cells develop (potentially i-cell-like stem cells), how mutations are passed on from parents to their gametes, and... https://t.co/lGlujfzD1J

Come see me Saturday after lunch at #ACRS2022
Kat @kepra3 will present her recently completed PhD work on combining photogrammetry with genomics to estimate dispersal variance within Agaricia spp. (only estimated in a few corals!) She'll also talk about the use of photogrammetry to characterise colonies' microhabitats (2/3)
