Not to mention how weirdly barren the world looks in a lot of his work, it's just odd and not at all how I picture Sodor.

It REALLY bugs me that Spong is apparently the "most canon" illustrator when he made some of the most egregious mistakes since Dalby

In the context of the story it makes perfect sense to be on the mainland & it doesn't really give me Sodor vibes, but that's very subjective and I was curious if it can be confirmed either way, especially since the wiki is so definitive on it being on the mainland.

Is there any consensus on where this location is? Is it Sodor or the mainland, and if the latter, is it meant to be a specific real place?

-cautionary tale. The speed and degree yo which they drove such a beloved & lucrative brand into the ground is such an astounding display of incompetence & misunderstanding of everything that made it successful in the first place.

Thomas Wood is still the most embarrassing & shamelessly cheap thing I've ever seen a major company put out for such a big & profitable IP and I cannot fathom how anyone at any stage thought it would be successful. Mattel's handling of Thomas in general should be a-.

I’ll always be shocked at how TWR was consistently financially successful for 23 years and Mattel fumbled the ball on how to handle TWR, from downgrading the quality every year, to Wood, to barely supporting the improved range. Over a decade, its decayed into basically nothing

It's funny that the Chibnall era was clearly trying to make DW into "prestige TV" in all the most superficial ways, meanwhile any single episode of the Moffat era is honestly more cinematic, thematically rich, & full of ideas the entire Chibnall run. I like most of-.

@Q_Review Moffat experimented with, subverted, and deconstructed the show more than any other writer. He knows its formulas and themes inside out and played with them as much as he could. His era is the most thematically & structurally ambitious by a country fucking mile-.

Like sorry if its really important to you that Boulder and the flossing robot exist in the same canon, you can headcanon that all you want, but you will never convince me that makes any sort of actual sense.

Each of the four distinct eras of the show (and TATMR I guess) was made on their own terms in their own style with different rules and goals, and the only way to make any sort of sense of them is to treat them as such.

I know crewmembers have said they consider everything one canon but please, let's not pretend they even gave that question any sort of thought until they were asked. It's a shrug more than an answer, and frankly just makes zero sense at all.

This + several other references & flashbacks confirm the "broad strokes" approach to continuity applies. As in, most previous seasons' events happened, but slightly different. Which is perfect cause it lets the writers pick & choose what they wanna keep and what they wanna trash.
