Batting and bowling averages must be #1. Per Test contribution is also a great measure for allrounders. For contribution part, I arbitrarily defined good/v.g./great for the 2 disciplines to show great assets. Revised 2020 tweet to include Jadeja before play. #Cricket #INDvENG

The following filters have been applied to reduce the group size: *Test Career: 2000+ runs & 100+ wkts *Batting: 24+ avg & 30 runs/Test *Bowling: <36 avg & 1+ wkt/Test PS: Historical bat avg to the nearest round number is 30. A 20% margin is allowed for both batting & bowling.

Malcolm Marshall in First Class #Cricket Of his 1651 wickets: 351 bowled, 954 caught, 343 lbw, 2 hit wicket and 1 stumped. Can you guess the 2 hit wicket and 1 stumped instances: batters, teams/venues and the years? H2H is incomplete, anything else you want to know? Ask away!

Michael Clarke on Andrew Flintoff: “Freddie was probably the toughest fast bowler I faced; consistent with speed, back of a length, angle into your body.…” It’s a recurring theme on podcasts these days, pretty much any batter who faced Flintoff in mid 2000s rated him highly!

On a side note, Marshall took 100 First-Class wickets or more in a season for @hantscricket twice. 1982: 134 wkts at 15.7 (12x 5wI, 4x 10wM)🤯 1986: 100 wkts ar 15.1 (5x 5wI, no 10wM) He came close in 1985 with 95 wkts. ~Exactly half his FC wkts were for Hampshire (826/1651).

Alec Bedser dismissed Arthur Morris 22 times in First-Class #Cricket (18 in Tests; Morris still avgd 57+ at home and 57+ away in Tests involving Bedser: 57% of career runs)! Breakdown: caught 10 times, lbw 6, bowled 5 & stumped 1. Next best was 8 times by Tayfield (6 in Tests).

18-yo Arthur Morris made his First-Class debut @scg on #BoxingDay in 1940. He made 148 & 111. Played 3 more games; then didn’t play for 6 years due to WWII. By the time he made his Test HS of 206 as a 29yo, his FC average stood at 64.94 (8000+ runs in 134 inns). #Cricket #ATG

Bumrah obviously dominated Australia in Test #Cricket; surprisingly Aussies performed well in LOIs against JB. Only Windies have a higher SR and South Africa with higher average than Australia in T20Is. The ‘core’ Anglosphere countries have done pretty well in ODIs.⬇️ #AUSvIND

What an astonishing shot that was from Travis head! That Bumrah delivery was moving away from him and yet Head changed the bat face so delicately to hit over wide-ish mid on. That’s not from the coaching manual. What a player! Expensive JB over 18 runs (4b). #AUSvIND #Cricket

Less than 3 hours sleep after last night’s epic semifinal before a long day at work. About an hour behind on this T20I. Just saw SKY dismissal. Hazlewood’s tight thumb position to impart more fwd rotation was a giveaway for a leg cutter. MAGNIFICENT delivery though! #AUSvIND

A few mates were discussing the missed chances and poor tactics. I was like if the GREATEST SPORTING DYNASTY in the history of the Universe cannot defend 338 in an ODI, then they should just say “well played” to the opposition and train even harder. #AUSvIND #INDvAUS #Cricket

Sophie Molineux is the only bowler with less than run a ball economy; yet she only bowled 5 overs. Especially with 2 right handers batting, left arm orthodox would’ve been very handy. I’m not sure why she wasn’t utilised. It may be a few overs too late now? #INDvAUS #AUSvIND

If you cannot defend 338, no business being in the finals. Well done India! Australian pacers were poor. Leg cutters and back of the hand slower balls are risky with dew. As I type, seam up back of the hand draws a chance and another easy catch is dropped. #INDvAUS #AUSvIND

Alana King 0-50 off 8 overs after bowling this well.🤯 In the meantime, Gardner is gradually making a strong case to be Australia’s ODI GOAT. She misses out on good tracks because top order scores heavily; she bowls tough overs and takes screamers like that! #AUSvIND #INDvAUS

Shocking drop by Alyssa Healy there. Alana King bowled so well with nothing to show for (yes, there were a couple of bad full tosses with slightly wet outfield/ball at the time). Nobody else looked like taking a wicket. It’s looking pretty grim there for AUS! #INDvAUS #AUSvIND

Litchfield has been tremendous in the field so far. Ashleigh Gardner again bowled a solitary over in the power play. The amount of faith in her during tough situations is crazy. Naturally, she often delivers too; both with the bat and ball. Not much swing!🧐 #INDvAUS #AUSvIND

That was an amazing review by Alyssa Healy; and a fantastic catch too. It’s the sort of catch and review combination, almost nobody else in Int’l #Cricket could pull it off. It took a special cricketer who has been surrounded by cricket royalty all her life. #INDvAUS #AUSvIND

Not counting today’s game, Perry hasn’t bowled in the last 7 ODIs. She hasn’t bowled in 21 of the last 32 ODIs. She has bowled a total of 32 overs in the last 32 ODIs, going back to July 2023. Yes, AUS have many options; but how many legit out swing bowlers? #AUSvIND #INDvAUS

I should add Ponting and Smith timeline. Ponting’s highest batting average was 59.99 after 107 Tests. Smith’s was 64.81 after 67 Tests. After 119 Tests, Smith is on 56.02 now (Ponting was 58.37). Late 30s isn’t a great place to be playing in Australia or Southern hemisphere.

Tendulkar started at 16 and finished at 40, with unreal consistency. For most of first 15 years, many teams had 2 ATGs in the bowling line up. PS: The exact 20th anniversary falls under 21st year category (actual example for Sobers). I added Kohli here for reference. #Cricket

Kohli increased his Test average from 43.76 to 55.10 in 34 Tests in ~exactly 3 years. It fell from 55.10 to 46.85 in 42 Tests over 5+ years. His rise was far greater than his ‘fall’. He’s widely considered a true Test great and is well respected for Test career alone. #Cricket

I just wish Kohli had a better end to his Test career. He's such disrespected.

Mandhana avgs ~50 in ODIs @ a SR of 108+ v AUS (90 avg in Test #Cricket). In India, ~64 avg & 122+ SR. Last 5 ODIs v Aus: 105 (109) 58 (63) 117 (91) 125 (63) 80 (66) Insane strike rates! As Paul Kelly would say “fortune used to hide in the palm of her hand” #INDvAUS #AUSvIND
