On 17th May 2001, Blackburn Rovers agreed to buy Tugay from Rangers for £1.3m.
Around the same date, Rangers opened an EBT account for the Blackburn Rovers manager.
On 13th June 2001, while still manager of Blackburn Rovers, Souness requested £30k from his sub-trust.
For the benefit of trolls and disguised remuneration naïfs alike, “Rangers” were not relegated. They ceased to be a registered football club as a consequence of liquidation.
The assets were sold, a new club was formed- and was allowed to skip the queue to enter SPFL 4th tier.
Congrats to Man City on being the biggest financial dopers and cheats in Europe.
The message is clear: to win the European Cup today you can’t cheat by half measures. You must go all in.
Well done UEFA. You got the outcome you designed the tournament to produce.
The Man City case will be of passing interest and will generate lots of comparisons to the Rangers’ case.
Let’s not lose sight of what happened at Rangers and why it mattered.
A recap thread.
I will leave you all again with some questions.
Why have Sevco chosen now to go big with a story that is based on data made public by BDO 5 months ago?
A new shocking revelation?
Or a useful distraction?
#dontbelievethehype
Last point.
A Billy Boys-singing, Rangers-supporting policeman does the wrong thing when his old club is involved.
An experienced Rangers/Sevco ST holding judge is forced into retirement because of "mistakes" in this case.
But RFC/Sevco-supporting referees are above reproach?
Walker and Boyd disagree on the VAR penalty decision despite seeing it many times.
This is problem of officiating in Scottish football in a nutshell. People cannot separate their personal biases from the game.
Yet SFA tell us Andrew Dallas can be impartial?
It’s a joke.
As last words go, this was pretty good.
James Doleman's final tweet on 25 Oct.
I'm glad his suffering is over but sad for us who will miss his "first day as [assistant to public figure making an arse of it] didn't go well" posts.
To survive the tax case RFC would have had to find £24m underpayment + £12m interest + £16m penalty.
(If RFC was still alive HMRC would be pursuing the penalty).
The idea that Rangers could have survived losing the tax case is just a joke.
When starting the RTC blog in 2011 I thought that simply getting the facts out there would bring about a cleansing.
Instead football administrators and hacks closed ranks to ensure that corruption and incompetence remain the hallmarks of Scottish football.
Although it isn't remotely true, I quite like the idea that the tax case was all a big mistake.
Maybe a few Celtic fans typing in their maws' spare rooms really did destroy the mighty Rangers? 😂
That would be the funniest ending of all.
On the one occasion anyone dared ask Souness about this payment, he said it was for "scouting in Europe" for Rangers.
While he was manager of Blackburn Rovers? 😄
I don't believe him. I think Souness lied.
I think bribes in football are unacceptable.
To those kind people expressing concern for my productivity and asking what I can possibly get out of posting on here-
Let me assure you.
It has been very worthwhile. 🙂
I can't imagine how sickened Ally McCoist must have been when he realised how much money Rangers had stolen from his beloved Queen.
A man of such integrity and loyalty could not have ignored it all because it was to his personal profit to do so.

On the issue of Rangers' continuity, I've said before that I'd be happy to ignore liquidation and pretend that Sevco and Rangers were the same thing...
if Sevco were to pay every unpaid bill Rangers owed and the stolen silverware was officially acknowledged.
It’s hard to explain the extent to which VAR has tilted the table towards Sevco.
I have never believed officials intentionally make bad decisions to help Ibrox clubs but how else to explain every “mistake” benefitting them after video review?
And every single Rangers player that day received tax-free payments through an EBT. Even the manager had one.
But we were told spending more ill-gotten cash on footballers doesn't affect performances over a season.
John McKenzie, the helicopter pilot: “It was a bit manic, and we DID change direction.”
Alan Thompson: “Martin [O’Neill] just said to us, ‘get into the showers.’”
Chris Burke: “I’m not sure many at Rangers thought we’d do it.”
Helicopter Sunday 15 years on. In The Times tomorrow.
George Peat was President of the SFA when HMRC knocked on the door with the equivalent of a warrant to see all of Rangers' financial data filed with the SFA.
You would think he would have launched his own investigation. You know- for the good of the game. He did nothing.
Sevco's 10th anniversary party not missing the real message. 10 out of 11 starting players were EBT recipients.
Rangers' death is the obvious reason for making a fuss today. Nice that they acknowledge what really happened.
Almost forgot. It’s the most terrifying day of the year for some.
Happy Liquidation Day.
On 31/10/2012, the Court of Session ruled that Rangers FC was now In Liquidation.
Before VAR there was always the possibility of “honest mistakes”.
Now there is little room for doubt about what has gone on in the Scottish game for generations.
Journalists. If you are happily taking leaks and leads from shady PR people but not demanding they give you the full text of the resolution Rangers* wanted the SPFL to present for a vote, you are just a shill.

, get everyone to register their passport details with you in order to keep their account. Make them have their own name on it. Their own picture too. Make everyone accountable. If they refuse, delete them. Society has to much better than it is.
The same mainstream sports hacks who denied there was a serious tax issue at Ibrox, it would all be settled for pennies on the pound, RFC would not be liquidated, and who try to pretend none of it happened- are telling us that Celtic are just paranoid.
The press tell us we're paranoid about refereeing. Scottish officials are immune from all biases, they tell us.
Then we see the press join in with Sevco's provable lies and push them as truth.
Paranoid? We are nowhere near paranoid enough.
This. Exactly this.
The issue isn’t that Sevco got a last minute penalty again.
It’s that the rules are so unevenly applied by so many of their own supporters as refs and VAR officials.
Yet we put up with it.
In the most bitterly contested rivalry in sport, the idea that one side can spend and cheat its way into oblivion, shirk paying its bills, and then restart- and we are all to pretend nothing happened?
Not happening.
The Elite v Sevco lawsuit is still to go to court.
Elite are pursuing Sevco for £9.5m.
The RIFC accounts yesterday did not make any provision for this case. A wee review of the facts.
Rangers' liquidators, BDO, are due to issue a Report to Creditors early next week.
Expect it will have a total due to HMRC of about £50m. About £30m for BTC (£22m underpayment + £8m compounded interest). Rest for WTC and Whyte non-remittance.
Not a chance they could have paid.
Nothing validates my time tweeting a refresher on what really happened to old Rangers a decade ago like lots of angry replies trying to use child abuse as a cudgel.
Not a single reply has made an effort to refute the facts of the decades of fraud.
Allowing a cop & judge behind the Rangers* malicious prosecution scandal to just retire is as clear a signal as anyone needs that powerful people do not want anyone testifying about this case in open court.
What are they hiding?
For the avoidance of doubt, RIFC/Sevco spent £11.9m more last season than they took in.
That is the only financial statement you need to know.
Then, after 01-July, they spent a further £13.1m on new players and getting rid of Beale.
£25m gone.
I’ve posted documentary evidence of a prior conspiracy among Scottish football’s ruling authorities to aid Rangers/Sevco.
The only response is tinfoil memes. No refutation of the evidence. No alternative explanations. No denials from the participants.
#notparanoidenough
Until the Supreme Court delivered a slapdown for the ages in 2017, Rangers' representatives had spent 20 years pretending taxable wages were loans.
Now the water carriers for their successor are trying to argue an advance and a loan are the same thing?
It was a chess move.
Sevco have put the SFA in “mate” by demanding to choose their own referees.
If the SFA concede and post Collum elsewhere - every ref knows his career depends on being a crowd pleaser.
How will the SFA respond?
Sevco financial position (from one of 60,000 experts in the east end of Glasgow).
Their position is now a little worse than the dead Rangers club they were built to emulate.
Amazing

Open questions to Messrs Doncaster and Maxwell.
Do you have full confidence that all SPFL Premiership clubs have binding commitments of funding in place to ensure they can complete all 2021/22 fixtures?
What have you done to assess and mitigate such a risks?
It’s clear Ange wasn’t focused on the Cup final. He was busy negotiating a deal. People will get bothered that “he lied”.
What was he supposed to do? It was the least harmful lie he could tell. Saying he was leaving before the final would have been stupid.
It is what it is.
Sevco fans- inside the press and beyond- seem happy to console themselves with a “better team” narrative from Saturday.
Good. Just keep doing what you are doing. Don’t change. Please.
The agony of financial failure and acceptance of being second best is hitting them hard.
Celebrating child abuse linked to other clubs, while ignoring and covering up the same crimes at Ibrox, is all they have left.
Legendary manager Jock Stein paid tribute to the paedophile founder of Celtic FC’s feeder club a decade after he was said to have kicked him out for molesting boys, it has emerged.
Happy Administration Day.
The financially literate with an interest in Scottish football had seen this date coming for a few years.
Running big losses most season + property bubble popping + huge tax liability looming = no one to the rescue. 🍾
I present facts relevant to on-the-pitch performance. They respond by talking about a society-wide plague that has affected their old club and their own 'heroes' as well.
Why no debate on the damage done to all of Scottish football by spending far above their income for decades?
What is really wrong with the Rangers franchise clubs that play at Ibrox?
With so many fans, why are they a financial basket case? Why have these clubs achieved so little in so long?
A thread.
Hi
@magnusllewellin
Remember that big exclusive about HMRC getting its sums wrong?
The inference that Rangers could have settled their tax bill and might still be alive today?
Oldco Rangers liquidators BDO has reached a final settlement with HMRC regarding the oldco tax debt - £56m.
BDO now believes unsecured creditors will receive a total of 14.3p in the pound.
I love this Sevco fan line of defence when confronted with data and analysis about Ibrox clubs.
Unable to refute the facts, they question why a paying customer of a competitor club would spend time dredging up their cheating, corruption, or unsustainable spending.
