Why would a 41yo slightly obese Orthopaedic surgeon decide to go skiing for the first time today?!?! Survived it with only minor injuries. Round 2 tomorrow 🤷🏻♂️

The doctor gave me a correct diagnosis and treated the problem. My problem is now solved. I waited in the waiting room for 12 minutes and was not provided with snacks. 1 out of 5 stars.

I have a google number that rings on my cell phone. I give it to every postop. If my phone rings on the google voice number, I know it’s a patient. If I don’t answer, google transcribes message and texts it. Patients feel like they have 24/7 access and they rarely use it.

Hip fracture add-on after a scheduled hip scope. No need to have the table in the room changed. First time trying this and worked out great.

It shouldn’t be. Just need to find the right mentor with something actively going on you’re interested in. You have a pretty big reach. Just ask orthotwitter spine folks who needs a medical student to help with research that can be done remotely. You’ll get a few hits!

In residency, had an open tibia from sub-Saharan Africa. Took bus to Johannesburg and was placed in long leg cast. Then flew to NY and took cab to the ED. Showed up post injury day 7. No abx. Tibia was well aligned. Took off cast. Skin was healed. Put cast back on.

Here is a list of programs that would consider looking at you and the entirety of your application, and not just discriminate against you based off the letters that come after your name.
@BrooketheOstomy
Does a 2 year requirement bias against those who can’t afford to spend another 2 years paying off loans and not making a salary?!?? Let’s be clear. Required research years is bias against URiM applicants!
@jbjs
👏🏼
We should do away with the term “research year” and replace it with “mentorship year.” The goal is to mentor students - be taught how to do research, come to resident journal clubs and education, see some patients in the clinic and OR. Pepare the mentorship student for

Had one of my tweets cited in an academic journal. Our research librarian suggested adding “alternative metrics” section to my CV. Citation: Randymcohn. (Available at) . Date accessed: March 22, 2022. Discussed and cited in Arthroscopy. 2022:38(6):1755-7
More breakdown. MD 4th years had a 73% chance of matching in ortho. DO 4th years had a 50% chance (actually number lower because of the ~235 students that dual applied and matched in other specialties)

After 30 days, 83 percent of patients with a hip fracture managed non-operatively had no pain, no additional adverse outcomes, and no additional health care costs!

“My reputation and my outcomes are based on how I work with my team. And that includes my resident. If you do not want the resident involved, I will respect that, but you are asking me to do things differently than how I would normally do it.”
There appears to be a homeless Panda Bear sleeping outside the emergency room at my hospital. Any thoughts on how to handle this from

@harif_studoc
@DrGrantHogue
Yes. You need mentors who know you to write meaningful letters. And call the programs you are most interested in. 30 pubs from a research factory doesn’t make the application. It’s the call from your mentor.

875 ortho slots not going up anytime soon. Radiology—> interventional rads/pain fellowship. FM/IM/ED—> primary care sports medicine fellowship. General surgery—> plastics/hand fellowship. Physiatry —>sports medicine fellowship. Many paths besides ortho into musculoskeletal care.
