Anyone else notice something in these numbers that is not being talked about? Ignore the candidate numbers for a moment and look again https://t.co/WGZHfsn4qC

There is another possible solution to the Fermi paradox: the universe is a zoo, or a nature preserve, or a grand experiment, and the curators want each planet to evolve independently. So the speed of light keeps us apart with barriers in both distance and time.

Guessing that is part of some programmed demo script. If it really is presenting emergent behaviors of some complexity, like taking you to see its ancestors, aren’t we a bit outside the limits of what can be theoretically explained as model output, and if so, where are we?

In Boston you don’t work at a startup. You work at a STAAAHT-up. You should hear the accents in this restaurant. It could be a scene from “Departed”

[Blog] Don’t call it a baseline : The rise of “infrastructure as code” is creating distributed systems that change and evolve too rapidly for human analysts to baseline and profile expected behavior. A blog about using machine learning to find the things https://t.co/Fadt9Hth4v

I have an idea: an escape room for 20-somethings. The rooms include these puzzles: - making a call using a rotary phone - setting up an Atari 2600 on a 50 year old TV - hooking up a VCR, setting the clock to correct time - booting an i386 into MS-DOS 6 & Windows 3.11 - others?
