Xi and the media should not be led by his tweets in the coming war of words with China. But social media populism pays in China too, and all media, esp. American ones, are under financial pressure: analytics-driven populism and jingoism, anyone?.

In 2020 election, Trump’s main opponent is not Biden, but whether the media allow his tweets to blame China for the pandemic and thus escape blame for his failures: ‘they should pay’, he will say. #populism #China #Trump.

The future until November 2020 is increasingly predictable: Xi is forced by trade wars into retaliation: He unloads or calls in the huge financial debt that the US owes to China. Trump blames the Chinese for the economic downturn. Americans believe him, and reelect him #populism.
