Any independent organisation that says they are serious about seafarer’s well-being, need to start with most serious thing. Seafarer’s Deaths onboard. An International database of all the deaths onboard with investigation report is a necessity. Otherwise how would we know.

Let me Predict future outcome…. ▫️DG inspection. ▫️Hostel cleaned & cadets briefed before DG inspection. ▫️DG inspection finds no violations. DG finds that the cadets had to adjust during repairs for few days because of a pipe leakage in few rooms.
Cadets at Coimbatore Marine College pursuing Nautical Science are facing extremely poor hostel conditions. 6 students are crammed into rooms meant for 4, affecting studies, health, and mental well-being. Blatant violation of DGS guidelines.

If our industry is serious about “Seafarer’s mental health” then each delayed sign-off instance should be recorded as a near-miss. Otherwise all the mental health campaigns are just a paper exercise. Agree?.
