I genuinely didn’t realise until this week just how many conservative Christians don’t believe women should vote.

@raeljames This is not a dig if you're not from those circles. If you are, I would argue that you may not have been paying attention.

@hihosilver28 I’m from conservative Christian circles in the UK, thankfully heard very little of this even from passionate complementarians. We heard a lot more about the sacrifices of the suffragettes, and later our soldiers in World War II, to ensure we all had a right to vote.

@raeljames @pastherandie Another reason why this so called Christian Nationalism movement is so potentially dangerous. If the Christian Nationalist win/rule, whose version of Christianity is going to rule? The one that would deny women the right to vote?;the one opposed to CRT in its totality? Which one?

@raeljames I wonder if it's a numerically greater number than those who voted not to ban slavery as punishment for a crime in TN. Like maybe it's just several thousand people but they're all on Twitter

@raeljames Don’t feel bad. I was an evangelical pastor for seven years, and I had no idea until now.

@raeljames Never heard this. I grew up in a legalistic, fundamentalist church and never experienced this. Where is it happening?

@raeljames Let’s go one step further and only landowning heads of households get to vote

@raeljames I am sure that you didn't hear that ridiculous accusation from a real conservative Christian. The sounds like something made up by those who are critical of "conservative Christians."

@raeljames I keep hearing this. I don't know any. I'm a conservative Christian who lives mostly in conservative Christian circles. Where are they?

@raeljames @DaultRadio I was raised that way. The idea was that women should never have been given the vote, but since they WERE, of course women were to vote as their husband, the head of the household, dictated on behalf of the family.

@raeljames And not just women. William F Buckley Jr debating James Baldwin at the Oxford Union was quite clear

@raeljames Yeah, apparently we're only meant to be pen1s receptacles and good for nothing else except to keep house for them. As if God's vision and purpose for women was so narrow.

@raeljames Not just voting... the Bible verses they use to justify banning women preachers could also be used to justify banning women from every position of authority

@raeljames It's hard to see what's right there—we've been trained by our environment not to see what we're seeing and not to hear what we're hearing. It takes the work of God to unstop our eyes and ears *even though* these people have been shouting their ideas and plans for decades.
