Courage has many faces. Today, for me, it is Aboli, wife of late Maj Prafulla Moharkar, who gave up his life for the nation five years back. Aboli honoured her husband’s memory by hoisting the flag he had come wrapped in, on Mt Yunam (6,111 m) a Himalayan peak.

Yes, freedom is not free. A soldier paid for it in blood and tears, and a limb and sometimes a life. I am reminded of this every time i meet a war hero. Was reminded yet again when i saw Gen Ian Cardozo speaking at a session on the 1971 war at the USI’s Military History Festival.
