it's not just that we have no evidence, without a world historic mass mobilization, that philanthropists can save us from climate catastrophe and democratic backsliding. it's also that we have no evidence they want to.
4 yrs on and my inbox is full again of organizational statements by endowed philanthropies swearing never to waver from their strategies. "now more than ever" etc etc while many of the same philanthropies' chief investment officers are prob circulating bullish market projections

The debate over increased payout and other modest reforms incorrectly assumes things will āget back to normalā soon. NCRPās @r_j_schlegel argues that weāve entered a new normal, and foundations must get serious about their role in it. https://t.co/irbwxQLlbW

the bipartisan de-industrialization of a region with 80m people and 120 EVs with vanishingly little mitigation or offsetting for impacted communities was short sighted re: winning elections by luring voters away from pure fantasmagorĆa to believe normal things are possible again

since we are QTing i'll just say the hilltops in eastern ohio are muddy in the winter which is the only time of year i've ever been to bury relatives the family cemetery so bring your boots if you're going
@LinseyMcgoey I tried to point out you may have missed the news that Ohio's sitting democratic senator has been there a lot. i had. the QT with the haughty "get thee to ohio" is, as you've already realized, unfortunately very funny
