If I could make one little change to the local media landscape, it would be for outlets to stop running these OLG marketing press releases about people winning the lottery. Or, at the very least, to run an equal amount of articles about people losing their savings to gambling.

๐ฅ ๐ฒ ๐ฅ ๐ฒ ๐ฅ It's time for my annual check-in on the Crawford Trail! To me, this is a no-brainer priority for improving transportation in Peterborough. Anyway, no surprises here, but it ain't in the 2025 budget. Fingers crossed for 2026!
Every budget, the first thing I turn to is the Crawford Trail project. This trail would run from Lansdowne to downtown along an old rail path. In 2019, two blocks (Lake to Romaine) were built. Then the $$$ ran out. ๐งต

The city has released its draft budget for 2025. Staff made over $1 million in spending cuts to bring the tax increase down to 7.8 percent, the budget states. Among the cuts: Grants to local non-profits and health benefits for people on social assistance. https://t.co/X5g5a5xtDX

There was a lot of talk on social media about illegal salmon fishing on the Ganaraska River in Port Hope this fall. The province responded with a ban, but is it really in the best interest of the fish? https://t.co/s8rZZi7etR

Peterborough's children's aid society has operated at a deficit in recent years as core provincial funding has decreased
Minister Parsa said KHCAS has received $4.6 million "over and above" its annual allocation since 2020. That's true. Those boosts are represented as light blue in this chart. But the annual allocations themselves have been steadily decreasing.

The province and @KHChildrensAid are offering competing narratives to explain the agency's budget troubles. So we dug into the agency's financial statements to help you sort it all out.
