Also, its such utter dogshit to suggest that universalism leads to laxity. St Isaac of Ninveh didn't write multiple volumes of ascetic guidance because he thought it just wasn't important. In actual fact, we should strive to love all things and commit to the straight and narrow.

Further proof the ""re-enchantment"" crowd have no idea what they're talking about. DBH has done more to further a sophiological vision than anyone else. But of course, for them, "re-enchantment" means not a genuine confrontation of Nature in all her beauty and sublimity and

"When Moses our master said: 'Show me thy glory,' he sought his death in order that his soul should obliterate the barrier of her palace which separates her and the wondrous divine light, which she was eager to contemplate. But because Israel still needed Moses, God did not wish.

Strictly speaking there cannot be any sort of "reabsorption" into the Divine as some monist schools of thought (Or at any rate, their interpreters) seem to imagine there is. To reflect on this yields quite a fruitful insight into the nature of the chain of being and, most of all,.

I think this is in many ways Ibn 'Arabi's understanding of the divine names as revealed in creation. All things are full of God, all things manifest His infinite essence; each discrete phenomena shows forth a message or attribute of God, and is an icon of a divine name.

@JosephBenJ2 @SimonSimplicio Dionysius' doctrine of Difference as a divine name helps emphasize this. Things are unique precisely because they manifest God and are his phenomenal appearances, instead of God having to "step back" to allow uniqueness to flourish somehow.

"As the unconditional principle, by its nature, cannot admit (any) exclusiveness or coercion, that union of particular aspects of life and individual forces with the integral principle, as well as among themselves, must be unconditionally free: at the same time, all these.

Fear therefore has no place in the Christian religion. The fact this motivates many is an error to be corrected, not an unfortunate fact to be accommodated. Christ vanquishes all fear and raises us up to a complete assurance of salvation which leaves no room whatsoever for fear.

This is a defective understanding of Christianity. Christianity is, above all else, voluntary, willing self-sacrifice for the other, and is therefore wholly a religion based on conscious commitment; good cannot be forced through coercion, but only accepted voluntarily.

The great fear of universalism for the many is that many are operating in a mode of mixed love. Not perfect selfless love for God, but mixed motives, fear and love. The fear drives them. If hell is not eternal, why stop sinning? Even if universalism is true, preaching it. .
