This is the. (counts on fingers). eigth platform I'm porting Downland to. The todo steps are getting too wellworn now. Do background drawing, then sprites drawing, then handle input, handle transitions, handle sound. I should switch it up to keep it interesting.

I can't tell you what actual the problem was. I'm sure some code in the MD crt.s was modifying the COM ports for some reason. I'm very much not an assembly guy so when I found a working example, I swapped out everything blindly hoping the problem would go away. And it did. Phew!.
