Catholic priest. PISAI (Rome). Lecturer in Shi'i Islam. Author: 'Fatima Daughter of Muhammad', ‘The Narratives of Zaynab bt. Ali’ and ‘Angels Hastening´ 🇿🇦
I am reminded that today is the birthday of Lady Zaynab al-Kubra, and therefore a day of joy and gladness most especially for the whole Shi'i community. Felicitations to all!
Zaynab did not defeat Yazid simply because she was brave or strong, but primarily because she spoke the truth. That is why for all eternity she will be called al-siddiqa al-sughra (الصديقة الصغرى) and Yazid will always be remembered for nothing but deceit
These are the days of Zaynab, when she reduced Ziyad to silence with words of courage and chastened Yazid with words of truth. The days after Ashura are Zaynabian days.
Zaynab most perfectly embodies the Shi’i ethos: she has a heart that beats in the places where al-Husayn’s heart beats, and that breaks in the places where al-Husayn’s heart breaks.
Remembering today the anniversary of the death of Lady Zaynab I send greetings to all who look to her as a model of motherhood, fortitude and piety. She wasn’t victorious only because she was brave. She was victorious because she refused to compromise truth.
Remembering on this day of Ashura all those, in every age and of every faith and nationality, seen and unseen, who have followed the Husayni model, willing to forgo their own rights, in great matters and in small, so that the rights of others might be preserved
Karbala’ is God’ pencil, by which He sketches out a space in which human beings can live more intensely, more deeply engaged with life: increasingly determined to wage peace, immovably rooted in truth and justice.
One of Fatima's names is 'the middle prayer' (الصلاة الوسطى). For all the reasons given, I think it is because just as the middle prayer is enfolded by the four others, so she is enfolded by her father, husband and two sons in the heart of her house
Delighted that
@gorgiaspress
has agreed to publish my work on Zaynab al-Kubra and to republish a revised edition of my work on Fatima al-Zahra’. Both based on the primary Arabic sources, both Sunni and Shi’i.
Stimulating afternoon at Westminster with
@MrHussain_RE
and Ammar Nakshawani discussing Catholic and Shi’i theology. Honored that these scholars have time for me and all my questions.
Great pleasure last night spending time discussing elements of the life of Lady Zaynab with
@ahmedgokal
She is an archetypal figure who transcends religious and cultural divides in her resolute stand for what is true and just
Delighted that this arrived from the publisher today. It was a wondrous thing to have the inspirational Abu al-Fadl al-Abbas as my literary companion in these years
Stimulating evening at
@HyderiCentre
last night talking about the sufferings of Lady Fatima to a deeply engaged and well-read group. Honored to be among the them and inspired by their devotion
Delighted to welcome members of the Hyderi Center in London to Rome and to our institute. Couldn’t have spent the day with a more excellent group

The Zaynab of Karbala leaves her fingerprints on every struggle for justice and authenticity, on all the places where people refuse to collude with corruption, or show a willingness to sacrifice for a great cause or are persistent in the quest for righteousness

I hear the sound of the world's most justified lawsuit. Hope he goes after them, starting with the CEO, down to the thugs in uniform
I would hope that all the Thai navy seals and international rescuers involved in the cave rescue in Thailand would receive the country’s highest honour for bravery as well as the highest honours of each one’s own individual country.
Have finally finished reading tonight this beautiful and informative book ‘Arbaeen. The Walk’. Masterfully written and worthy of a very wide readership

Karbala’ means a thousand things; but most importantly, it endures in the present moment, an ongoing event, a constant curving towards hope even when defeat seems imminent. For those who recognize Karbala’ moments it is an encounter with something divine
Delighted to meet up today with
@aligokal
to hear about the brilliant vision and work of
@WhoIsHussain
. Look forward to lots of collaboration in the future

In fact when one examines the sources, especially the records of his encounters with Zaynab and Ali b. al-Husayn, it is at once clear that he was a substantially dysfunctional human being, and was entirely undone by this extraordinary daughter of Ali and Fatima
@hussein_alkazaz
You do not need to aggrandise the Ayatollah by setting him off against the pope. Both are exceptional men of piety and faith, and each in his own right plays a massive role on the world stage.
@senatornoone
You are starting to make the Irish sound really banal. Please don’t. You clearly went to Mass with your own rather silly agenda, and an older, wiser person put you right. If you think that killing babies is compatible with being Catholic you are gravely wrong

The pleasure was mine. Look forward to some serious work around promoting al-Husayn, Fatima and Zaynab as archetypal figures who span religious and cultural divides
