I used to love watching movies and writing about them, but got out of the habit due to lack of time. Now that my kids are older, I have a bit more free time. So...here's my take on The Banshees of Inisherin.

It's starting to get cooler again, so it's time for a new DIY project. I'm going to turn an old card catalogue unit into a place to store my painting supplies. It's pretty damaged though...

Today I had a squirrel climb up my leg, thinking I was a tree. It made it to my waist before it stopped. Realising its mistake, it stared at me in shock. I said something dumb in surprise like, "I'm not a tree." It leapt off me onto the ground with an accusing glare.

What I have to deal with when getting the kids ready in the morning. "You're playing with them...why not me too?"

It made me not believe the rest of the book as much as it got that detail wrong. I know kids won't be as picky as me, but it really struck me that I really need to get the details right as I feel I can't be the only one who does this.

I read a kids book that is really good, and my kids really enjoyed it, but there was a scene in extreme cold where they do something with snow that I know isn't easy to do at that temperature (but they describe as being easy) and it really turned me off. Have I become too picky?

I'm trying to go about the latest edit in a structured way, so I made a list. Somehow "Humour Pass" on a checklist doesn't inspire the funny bone, but I'll try my best. Somehow having it all laid out this makes it seem more doable.

I wrote about the relatively crazy way I write books. I've also open sourced one of the scripts I wrote to turn my text files into word docs though it's a pretty niche use case!

Where does this obsession with attendance above everything else including the welfare of the child come from? It's incredibly frustrating as a parent to feel like you have an adversarial relationship with the school by default just because your kid is sick.

My kids came up with a joke from it. Them: "I broke my leg!" Me: "Just take some paracetemol!" Them: "I died!" Me: "Paracetemol again!"

So, my kids have COVID again. Headache, fever, etc. The secondary school called back and said, "You know you can just give them paracetemol and send them in, right?" As if that would magically fix the fact that they have COVID.

I had a bunch of friends' kids ~7-10yo test my game, and they've been getting their parents to message me with new ideas for it. So, I think the humour worked on it! Now I just need to apply that to an entire book (and another level to the game).

Was told to "dial it up to 11" on one of my projects. So, today I begin dialing. We'll see how it goes!
