Last week, federal judges issued the first two fair use rulings on #AI in Bartz v. Anthropic and in Kadrey v. Meta, both finding that #AI training on copyrighted works is a protected fair use — but the details aren't so cut and dry.

Yesterday, Trump's big budget bill passed the Senate, containing @SenTedCruz's provision to auction off the 6 GHz band that could make your Wi-Fi worse — and your bill more expensive. But there's still a small chance that the House might step in and reverse course.

We all want kids to be safe online, but it doesn't have to mean sacrificing lawful adult speech. SCOTUS' Free Speech Coalition v. Paxton ruling will require age verification on content deemed "harmful to minors," but also poses privacy and security risks to the rest of us.

The Senate just passed its budget bill, including efforts to auction off public spectrum. Under this text, the FCC could be forced to sell off as much as half of the currently unlicensed spectrum in the 6 GHz band -- which could lead to slower Wi-Fi.

But it's not too late to stop him. Take action TODAY and let your reps know you are NOT OK with them sacrificing your Wi-Fi. All they need to do is protect the 6 GHz band from being auctioned off by the FCC.

The House version of the budget bill protected the 6 GHz band from the spectrum auction block in order to preserve your Wi-Fi quality at home. You can thank Sen. Cruz for dropping that language and contact your reps ASAP to get it back in:

Great piece from @arstechnica on how the Senate budget bill could hurt your Wi-Fi: As SVP @haroldfeld.bsky.social so eloquently puts it, "Any proposals to reduce or repurpose 6 GHz unlicensed spectrum would be devastating to Wi-Fi performance.".

@SenMarkey @SenatorCantwell @MarshaBlackburn @SenatorCollins To be clear, this AI moratorium language that was struck from the Senate budget bill had NOTHING to do with AI development or innovation. Rather, it was an attempt to prevent states from regulating *anything* that could be perceived as touching an AI system at the state level.

Thanks to @SenMarkey, @SenatorCantwell, @MarshaBlackburn, @SenatorCollins for stripping the AI moratorium from Senate budget bill. This text would have hamstrung state efforts to protect consumers from things like deepfakes, robocalls for 5 yrs. This cut was the right thing to do.
