https://t.co/SUqdgUJti0 and https://t.co/bwlbjGvBOr go back to basics of self-hosting your apps with bare-metal servers, VPS or VMs running #Docker (no Kubernetes required) #golang #python #javascript

I don't really like reviewing code. LLMs just made it worse by making it easier for others to submit PRs. Quality varies of course. Whatever I'll pay the price. A project people actually use and contribute to beats months of solo coding into the void.

Go talk to your users! They're rooting for you Just wrapped my 2nd user interview for Uncloud. Exhausting. I love meeting-free days but I have to do this. I scratched my own itch initially but now I need focus. Who is my ideal user? What will people actually pay for? This is

Someone asks: Is Uncloud production-ready? When is 1.0? An early adopter jumps in: I'm building on it now in "production" and have found it stable, gets the job done. Adding some bits and pieces as I need them too A testimonial from an actual user > 1000 founder promises

How do you tag container images for your apps? 📦 I came up with the default tag format for uncloud deployments: <YYYY-MM-DD-hhmmss>.<gitsha 7>[.dirty] e.g. 2025-10-31-223604.84d33bb - sortable & human-readable commit dates - falls back to current time if no git repo - direct

Doubled my GitHub stars since June. Beautiful steady growth uncloud → 2.5K🌟 unregistry → 4K🌟 Only wrote one blog post since the successful HN launch in June. My guesses on traffic sources: - my tweets - word of mouth on social media - github's suggestion algorithm But
I’m not giving up. I'm doubling down. I set a goal for Uncloud to hit 1K🌟 this year and finally get some visibility — or perhaps give up otherwise. Last week @tonyovch and I released unregistry (a tiny subproject) and it hit the front page of the orange site. 5 days later:

Every Docker-based project gets an issue: "Podman support when?" I don't get the obsession. It's overblown. ...but rootless containers! Cmon, just use non-root users in containers and move on with your life. Stop procrastinating and put your effort into solving actual problems.

Is this what VCs do to open source founders and their humanity? Yesterday Bitnami, today MinIO rug pulling. Business has to be profitable, bla-bla - no doubt! But why zero communication? Zero effort to notify. Where's the a tiny bit of empathy for people who helped you?

Unpopular opinion: vulnerability scanning for Docker images is overrated. Just regularly rebuild your images with the latest lts base image and forget about it. Your containers will be more secure than the most public servers on the internet.
Our Docker images had 847 vulnerabilities. All from the base image. We were using ubuntu:latest. The fix: - Switched to distroless images - Reduced image size from 420MB to 28MB - Vulnerabilities dropped to 3 - Container startup time improved by 60% Then discovered our CI/CD

New repo: community recipes for deploying popular services with Uncloud. Day 1 contribution: production NATS cluster across 3 machines. - spans locations (even behind NAT) - automatically secured with WireGuard - no open ports Look how beautifully simple the config is 👇

50+ years building a decentralised internet it’s still so brittle. If it’s not DNS then it’s BGP. If it’s not BGP then it’s AWS us-east-1. AWS us-east-1 is down this time. Decentralisation isn’t anti-cloud, it’s about not putting all your eggs in one datacenter.

"Build things that don't scale" they say ☝️ Experimenting with handmade swag for my sponsors & open source contributors. Just made a wooden coaster with the Uncloud logo from recycled Australian eucalyptus - CNC'd the logo, hardwax oil finish. Building in public, literally 🪵
