@profvrr @PaulBieniasz so the second dose for Moderna is 4 weeks from the first, is that extra few weeks really going to make the difference? OR is the risk already built into a two dose vaccine and the extra weeks are just marginal???

@profvrr @PaulBieniasz Totally same thoughts. I'd add that after the first dose you get detectable levels of neutralising antibodies in about 30–70% of the vaccinees depending on the platform, deliberately ignoring the rest of the population

@profvrr @PaulBieniasz Not to mention that for vector-based vaccines, such as the AstraZeneca one, delaying the second dose could potentially make immunity against the vector more established within the host and render the second dose less effective anyway.

@profvrr @PaulBieniasz So, basically this virus is here to stay? Because the government is totally screwed up? That’s what I got from this post.

@profvrr @PaulBieniasz Who knew “Good luck everyone” would have been quite so prophetic.

Trump has appointed Mike Pence coronavirus czar. Pence doesn't believe in science, fueled the worst AIDS outbreak in Indiana's history while governor, denied that smoking kills, spread disinformation about condoms, and called global warming a "myth." Good luck everyone.

@profvrr @PaulBieniasz Didn't the b.1.1.7 readout suggest an impotent plasma may have caused adaptive behavior due to selective pressure? I also saw a researcher say he uses weakened titers to drive selectivity. Now I get why you guys are jumping up and down on this one. 😲 .

@profvrr @PaulBieniasz And I thought the number of named hurricanes got out of hand in 2020. So you are saying we will need a plan alpha, beta, delta, and zeta. Maybe the plan is to inject all 125 proposed vaccines at once and see what we get.

@profvrr @PaulBieniasz I have faith in T cells, especially against CoVs. If you get one of the full length spike vaccines, chances are there will be enough matching T cell epitopes between emergent variants and vax, which will hopefully keep you out of the hospital 🥶

@profvrr @PaulBieniasz I find it difficult to understand why such decisions are being taken despite us having so many great virologist around. My ‘virologist heart’ is bleeding.

@profvrr @PaulBieniasz Dear doc...are vaccines doomed? So many variants popping that cause reinfection.

"The recent emergence of variants with multiple shared mutations in spike raises concern about convergent evolution to a new phenotype, potentially associated with an increased propensity for re-infection of individuals."
