Another day, another uninformed
#Covid_19
article from
@nytimes
this one entitled 'The coronavirus is mutating'. When will they learn that this is NOT headline material? All viruses mutate ALL THE TIME, with every reproduction cycle in every cell. Listen to

We need to change 'Media' for news relating to science. It's one of the lessons from this pandemic.
Would love discuss with you. I was involved with
@mendeley_com
. No reason why this type of technology/workflow could not apply to general media.

Yes, a lot of frustrating headlines out there these days. I just wish that media outlets had scientifically literate journalists with actual science backgrounds (some do, but most dont). Its all about the buzz words these days...

@nytimes
Completely agree, but the positions these non syn. mutations took place represent enough biological evidence to be cautious and reassess what B.1.1.7 strain could represent.

I've now listened to TWiV long enough to be able to guess what the TWiVers will say: There is no "strain" of virus in England which is more virulent/aggressive; mutating is what viruses do; it's not an endgame for humanity. Thanks Dr. R and all the TWiV crew!

@nytimes
The title may not be great, but the article is very well written. It even gets one of the British Scientist's on the record saying that the "increased transmissibility" could be a result of human behavior and that more experimental data was needed.

Another, seldom mentioned, reason why herd immunity thru mass infection is a foolish idea.
More people infected => more mutations => new strains.

Hi! If you're interested in making determinations about what is and isn't "headline" material, you could always go to journalism school and put in the work to become a copy editor!

As a cancer researcher, I would also point out that all of us are mutating. Constantly. Read up on Science, folks. It won't hurt you.
