"...the need for culture change does not only apply to LGBT+ scientists; it applies to all of those traditionally excluded from STEMβwomen, ethnic minorities, the disabled, and those with socioeconomic disadvantage (as well as the intersections between all of these groups)" ππ
"Are we all just scientists, regardless of gender or sexual orientation? Is science a meritocratic system free from any bias and discrimination?" This week's #LGBTSTEMinar20 tries to address some of the issues that arise from these questions. https://t.co/IUAW2rG8Io

My talented partner submitted a design to decorate a traffic box and selected as a semifinalist. Finalists are determined by public vote. So many great options for 6 chances but please consider voting for "Bison" by Sam Barnum. Voting ends April 28! https://t.co/7e8XFu9DuA

My partner is taking a 2D design course during her first semester as an art student @CCDedu. The project for color theory: pick a color scheme to paint an activist. She chose an analogous color scheme to paint @TheAmandaGorman. I'm stoked to hang this one in my chemistry office

Naeher guesses left. Adriana Leon (with mud and grass all over her face) tucks it to the right corner, making it 2-2 with seconds to spare. Folks, we are going to penalties

Do you know a new or soon-to-be Ph.D. who likes organometallic mechanisms, undergrad research, & the Pacific Northwest? We have a postdoc position available in the Bowring group at Reed College! https://t.co/doWzREpjCF Here's me with both rockstar past postdocs:

World, meet Will. He's a HS senior who did some fun lab stuff with me for the @DMRSEF and was a finalist in his category! He had a lot to learn with minimal guidance about organic chemistry and research in a lab and he crushed it. So proud!

Worst customer service ever when the store is open until 8 pm and was hung up on twice by representatives on the phone @ATT Thanks for taking advantage of my partner's elderly aunt who died a month after being swindled into a brand new iPhone

Person in doctor's waiting area coughing and sniffling "I should have probably worn a mask." No shit? Maybe you could've grabbed one while walking past them in the entry or from any of the check in stations...? Thanks for protecting others by wearing a mask when sick

4.5 years (not including summer semesters) of FT faculty teaching under my belt. If I were to write a "what I wish I'd known..." to my first day teacher self it'd be an entire book. Students still amaze me & I'm always learning. Grades aren't quite done though so no party yet π«

A jury has found police officer Nathan Woodyard not guilty of manslaughter or even criminally negligent homicide for causing the death of innocent, unarmed 23-year-old Elijah McClain, who died after he was subdued by police and injected with ketamine by paramedics in 2019.
Elijah McClain should be alive. The 23-year-old was walking home from a convenience store in Aurora, CO when police stopped him, threw him to the ground and put him in a chokehold. βI canβt breathe,β he cried. βIβm an introvert and Iβm different.β He had a heart attack and died.

Today it happened. I was too sick to do my job. Left by 9:30 after arriving by 8 am for a make up lab. Luckily made it home before my guts showed themselves. Sorry students. It just wouldn't have been a good day for anyone if I had tried to push through.

Since the start of October... My partner was admitted to hospital overnight, a wallet was lost, one dog went to ER and 4 days later was puking blood so went to vet again only to find abnormal mass in stomach, and my car was hit & run sideswiped. It's day 12 of October π©ππ«£
