Interesting to see how the Rooivalk’s wire cutters & deflectors (?) differ from the Apache’s given the overall design and canon placement.
Wire strike protection systems. Helicopters, especially military ones, fly low where collision with power and telegraph cables is a lethal hazard. Wire strike protection is a guide & cutting surface that breaks the most common cables if the unlucky pilot should encounter them.

Over past two days I saw two peregrine falcon hunts. The first was at our home and the pigeon just escaped by diving through the neighbour’s carob trees. Yesterday, a falcon almost slammed into my car chasing a pigeon on the M3 towards Muizenberg. It’s awesome seeing these

22 Squadron, SAAF, arrived at first light yesterday in Stanford, Overstrand Municipality in the Western Cape to assist in combating the severe fires in the area. It is assisting a civilian fire-fighting UH-60A Black Hawk and UH-1H Hueys.

My first official [1] potato harvest for the season. Only one variety out of four performed well and produced around 2kg. The rest did maybe 500g of baby potatoes. My gem squash did well until mildew started setting in so I killed them off. This was the third gem squash harvest

We visited the new Assegaai submarine museum in Simon’s Town this morning. It’s really well done and worth a visit! I last toured the sub when it was still in the water - but the new setup is much better and more accessible.

The impact of shothole borer on trees in Cape Town... This is our Australian “Flame tree”. It was perfectly healthy last year, this year it’s dying. And another indigenous tree (don’t know the species) that is dying branch by branch. And our avo tree is also dying 😢

I took my son to King’s Meat Deli at Castle Walk in Pretoria this afternoon. It’s a right of passage. A pilgrimage of sorts. We have some decent butchers in Cape Town, but nothing really compares. Also me paying Pretoria meat prices….
