Disabled people don’t need pity, we need policy change. Instead of telling disabled folk they are inspirational, fight the system that causes the obstacles disabled folk face.

By the end of the 2022-2023 school year over 1,000 children were still waiting for a seat in a special ed preschool class- IN VIOLATION OF THEIR LEGAL RIGHTS. We can not allow this to continue. Contact City Hall- DEMAND FUNDING.

The following is the funding that NEED to be restored for programs for students with disabilities to merley function in 2025. • Preschool special education ($96M).• Literacy instruction and dyslexia.programming ($7M).• 60 school psychologists & 15 family.workers ($10M).

In a city where 2/3rds of public schools are inaccessible, NY public libraries are often the only space where disabled students can access resources such as braille books, asl courses etc audio books etc. The increasing NYPL budget cuts are a disability rights issue. Take action.

Two-thirds of NYC public schools are not accessible to physically disabled students. Eric Adam revealed his plan to spend $225 million to create a police training facility.

Got an email from a big brand that wants me to be the faced of a campaign they are doing. While I appreciate the good intention- instead of using flowery euphemisms to avoid saying disabled, and creating fake holidays, can they j make their stores accessible 🤷‍♀️

but I have also experienced: .Friends that care about me and don’t shame me for my disability. Professors that care so much and support my passions. An amazing disability office.

being a disabled college freshman so far: . stairs to get to the elevator. if u miss more than 3 days u are dropped- even if u have COVID or are in the hospital. being told by a classmate that if I need all these accommodations I shouldn’t be at an Ivy League.

a reminder with the devastation that is happening in Hawaii:. disabled ppl are 4x more likely to die during natural disasters. disabled people need to be included in disaster plans. consider donating to Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement.

only 58% of disabled students in NYC graduate highschool compared to the 81% of non disabled NYC highschool students who graduate.

there are reports of deaf parents losing custody of their kids for using sign language as their primary language.

in kansas, a couple had their baby stripped away from them 2 days after it’s birth, simply bc both parents were blind.
