I regret not taking more combinatorics classes in school. I took mostly algebra/analysis/topology to try to figure out if I liked pure math enough to do it over quant finance, but I realized I was much more talented at and enjoyed combinatorics more in my last semester

Elite schools still seem like wastes of time, sweet spot imo is t20-30ish. 1600-epsilon SAT + low effort olympiads (Nx AIME, USACO gold, etc.) + not sperging out on essays is probably optimal, maybe like 10% the total effort of doing regular schoolwork

Speaking mostly from an American CS job market perspective as that's what I'm familiar with, but a lot of reasonably smart college students should be able to 2-3x their pay for similar hours and job soullessness by grinding le leetcode and fullstack slop for a few weeks

I think a lot of soulful autist guys take the anti-striver thing too far, as did I in the past. If you're willing to do all the slave work of a college degree, putting in bare minimum effort to get a decently high prestige/pay job seems trivially worth it
