Every heartwarming human interest story in america is like "he raised $20,000 to keep 200 orphans from being crushed in the orphan-crushing machine" and then never asks why an orphan-crushing machine exists or why you'd need to pay to prevent it from being used.

The average US rent is $1234/month. For rent to cost less than a quarter of income, as suggested, you'd need to make $4924 a month. At 40 hours a week, that's $30.77/hr. The federal minimum wage is $7.25/hr

The reason you teach sex ed to young children is not because those children are having sex with each other, but because it gives them language to say "my father/uncle/priest is having sex with me." This is why maga sexual predators love to attack sex ed.

Today, in preparation for travel to Europe, I took a PCR test this morning. That test came back positive, which means I will be adhering to CDC guidance and no longer be traveling on the President’s trip to Europe.

In 10 years there will be a vast gaping cultural void of basically everything that was ever posted online between 2002 and 2026. Like a quarter century of media, deliberately turned to dust and ashes.

Imagine if the CDC said you don't have to wear condoms as long as you are both STD negative. You'd be like: yeah, technically that is true but in the *real* world we *actually* live in, this advice means people will wear condoms less often and spread STDs more.

Imagine you work as a cook. While making a dish, in full view of 3 other coworkers, you spit in it. You'd only do that if you trusted none of them to beat the shit out of you, or stop you, or report you.

If trump had won in 2020, covid would have killed over a million people and disabled millions more while the whitehouse botched every level of response. Roe would have vanished, with hints that Obergefell and Lawrence are next.

The force of the impact is powerful enough, due to the lack of crumple zones, to snap the axle at the other end of the fucking car. What do you think that force'll do to your spine and aorta

In 5 years there'll be a ton of articles moaning that fewer kids are going into sports, and the kids will be like "I've had asthma since I was 12 because of you, you fucking ghouls"

It's not because they are having sex with each other, it's because if an adult in their life does, they have a better chance of getting someone to make it stop if they *know what sex is*

Listeria has a case fatality rate of 25%, salmonella's is less than 1%. Listeria produces encephalitis and meningitis, it immediately migrates *throughout* the body and your blood-brain barrier freaks out.

In 1902, Charles Stiles identified the hookworm in fecal samples of southerners, and discovered how endemic and widespread it was. Stiles went on a public campaign to prevent hookworm, and doctors mocked him as a biologist rather than a doctor.

For centuries, this was normal. It provided the stereotype of southerners in general being stupid, lazy, and slow, it fed into racist stereotypes about the very poorest of the poor for whom it was *illegal* to take any kind of mitigations to prevent it.
