This study was super complex and so much credit is due the operational team who got it done. There are 3 complex stages, multiple randomizations, and 95 secondary outcomes.

I'm very excited that the OUtMATCH study, run by my team under awards from NIAID, was central to the FDA's approval of omalizumab to treat food allergy. This is a huge win for everyone worried about accidental exposures to allergens.

The FDA approved a new medication for the reduction of allergic reactions that may occur with accidental exposure to one or more foods.

People who are interested in this innovative Parkinson's trial should check out the trial website: https://t.co/Z9e3LAuWoZ It lists the inclusion criteria and a pre-screener.
A @DavisPhinneyFND blog on a new trial just posted. Of the two neural circuits we focus on in Parkinson's, the "direct" and "indirect" pathways, most drugs target the direct pathway. DBS targets the indirect. This drug could also help the indirect pathway.

This trial is currently recruiting! It would be great to get participants in Detroit, Scottsdale, Southern Illinois, Memphis, Boulder, and several sites across south Florida. Check the site listing here:

If you are interested in Parkinson’s, @MichaelOkun’s interview here with @SoaniaMathur shows why his perspective is the best there is in the field. Great for scientists, clinicians and patients alike.

We need better, more straightforward guidance on diagnosis and management, too. New drug formulations could help.
We as a community need to reach and train more general medical professionals to help with the growing number of movement disorders patients. Share this across your networks: https://t.co/C74T7zl74l

In fracture mechanics, we’ve learned that the stresses in a situation like this can grow without limit - until relieved by structural failure. You can’t just put a screw into a carbon fiber bicycle, for example, for the same reason. But this is worse. (2)

I just noticed from a photo of the Titan submersible that they appear to have screwed some screens and lights directly into the pressure hull. The epoxy used in carbon fiber is usually brittle and this is a very bad idea. (1)

ICH, where regulatory and industry stakeholders harmonize worldwide drug regulation - important for promoting access - embraces use of "participant" instead of "subject" in trials. Their ICH E8(R1) document, with guidelines for clinical trials, has been adopted by the FDA.
