Credits to the guy who wrote the article, a friend sent it to me so I don’t know exactly who it is but I would have to guess major bill from the Civil War Talk forum given his knowledge on early war Michigan.

(4/?) The initial request for these from the regiment was to have them made in sky blue wool with yellow trim but light blue fabrics were scarce at the time. The manufacturer used dark blue "pilot cloth" that was reportedly purchased from the state of New York.
