After six years in the test fleet, Boeing delivered the first 777 ever built and flown to Cathay Pacific for passenger service on this day, December 6, 2000. After 18 years and over 20,000 flights later, it is retired here wearing that livery. Photo by @Boneyardsafari

The USAF accepted the first production F-16 at the General Dynamics plant in Fort Worth, Texas on 8/17/78. Though the F-16 wasn't officially named Fighting Falcon until 1980, the "Name-the-Plane Contest" had already concluded with a free dinner for the winner. 📸 by Bold Imagery.

The Boeing 707 and KC-135 are based off the Model 367-80 that first flew on this day 70 years ago, July 15, 1954. The two examples here of this classic airframe have a lot of history as VC-137 "Freedom One" and NASA’s "Vomit Comet"

Big day in helicopter history: Sikorsky H-34 broke three speed records on July 12, 1956. Exactly one year later to the day, Eisenhower became the first president to fly in a helicopter. Work began to upgrade several H-34s, including the one at Pima, for the presidential fleet.

Today is Aviation Maintenance Technician Day and we're here to thank you for what you do so the rest of us can live in this wonderful bliss of ignorance. AMT Day is celebrated on May 24th because it's Charles Edward Taylor’s birthday, the man who built the Wright Flyer’s engine.

New aircraft on display! The Grumman Gulfstream I was assigned to the Johnson Space Center in Houston and used primarily as NASA staff transport. You can now see a G-I, II, and IV on the grounds.

BIG news in both size and impact. the famous Coulson Aviation airplane, Philippine Mars, will soon find its forever home here in Tucson, AZ! We've officially acquired the aerial firefighter converted from a WWII-era flying boat. We expect it to arrive by the end of the year.
