Super stoked— a student who wouldn’t do group test for the ENTIRE semester, just did their first group test. They overcame their social anxiety fears. AND they are contributing!!!! #teacherwin

Am I wrong?? If you teach postsecondary physics, how do you feel about sine law on right triangles? I try… I really do. Yet we are halfway through and one of my top students pulled this out. 😭 Perhaps I am overreacting. What say you? 🤔

This is so good on multiple levels! I would be inclined to award a bonus mark to anyone email complaining about the denominator…

Is this enough for mastery? Maybe not. But over the years, I noticed my strongest students doing extra without me telling them to do it. This system allows ALL abilities to move forward in the course and earn course credit. People do not tend to drop my class. #teacherwin

If they can’t get a letter correct before hand in,they can do an unassigned letter instead. If they have reduced practice on their IEP, I allow them to choose half or more of adeiptv. If they fall behind, I allow them to do half of the assigned until they catch up— for FULL marks

One thing I do for math class is allow students to adapt their practice according to their needs. For the Michelson workbook, students do the letters of each assigned number that form the word “adaptive”:aediptv (“tv”are always optional.)

Middle School Ts: Do you spend time in June reviewing key math concepts needed for transitioning to high school math? (My daughter is doing a third budget… not helpful!!)

This image is worth keeping around for the next time a student asks “What if every human on Earth gathered in one spot and we all jumped at the same time?” #iteachphysics

If you blended all 7.88 billion ppl on Earth into a fine goo (density of a human=985 kg/m3, average human body mass=62 kg), you would end up with a sphere of human goo just under 1 km wide. This is a visualization of how that would look like in Central Park. © reddit/kiwi2703

1/ Given that many teens are now using "private" social media accounts, rather than public - it is becoming much more challenging for investigators or school admins to get insight into student less than desirable behaviour.....

Any Grade 10 math teacher could make a fabulous lesson out of these tweets. Everyone needs to look at data so carefully!!

A thread with some basic red flags in data graphs. As physicists we stare at data a lot and it is surprising how frequent data representation in media (and even in science) distorts the message. In extreme cases you end up with ridiculous plots like this: 🧵1/9

Another weekend, and another basket of laundry left unfolded. That’s two weeks folks! Two. Clearly, my priorities are elsewhere.

Instead, why not use this time to allow student to work TOGETHER on a quiz??? Open book, for that matter. When we teach someone, we cement it into our long term memory. TALKING about the concepts?? It is a win-win for everyone in the room. #nobrainer #decolonizingeducation

Quizzing students in a traditional way is weird to me. 30-40 minutes of time spent telling the most academically vulnerable that they currently suck at the material. How is this useful use of class time?

The other piece to my assessment that is atypical is that I employ Two Stage testing practices. This is The Bomb. #assessmentgold
