@cruncherwax You think they don’t want the NHS? I disagree, they just vote Tory because have always done so. I think these are the people who suffer the most without the NHS. Their insurance costs would be unaffordable.

For those who don't fully understand what is up with the NHS, here is a thread for you that might help. I'm a consultant physician working as a doctor in the NHS in Yorkshire and Wales for 32 years now. I have experienced the NHS at its best (2008) and its worst (2022).

@peteneville65 I am a similar vintage to you, and agree with every word of your excellent thread. The people who need the NHS most don't want it though, according to yougov

@peteneville65 @cruncherwax I was with you until you started banging on about morally bankrupt govt and older people voting Tory. Then it was clear you are in the business of smearing the Tories rather than getting to the root of our issues. I wonder if the vested interests in the NHS are the problem?

@peteneville65 @cruncherwax The older tories I've spoken to don't want to give the NHS more money without efficiency improvements.

@peteneville65 Exactly, they will suffer most, but they vote for the party which is destroying it.

@peteneville65 @cruncherwax An exceptional thread Peter. Thank You for all you and your colleagues do. Our 💙 aches for you. When this truly awful Govt is finally gone hopefully it will be acknowledged what damage they have deliberately done to our #NHS 🤬

@peteneville65 @cruncherwax Statistically that cannot be true. If the over 70s cohort had always voted Tory then historically we would not have had a Labour government. It is people getting more Tory as they age (aka turkeys voting for Christmas).

@peteneville65 @cruncherwax Doc, as a Canadian NP who just got here, I can’t believe the shit I’m seeing. You guys should have hit the alarm years ago. I’m here to support all my new NHS colleagues in their right to SAFE and dignified work (wages and conditions) for all healthcare professionals

@peteneville65 @cruncherwax Someone needs to educate them, because not only do they vote Tory they also blame people like me who thankfully don’t need the NHS but pay my taxes & my business Corporation Tax,but as I am an immigrant it’s all my fault the NHS is failing.

@peteneville65 @cruncherwax By alienating their voters, Labour have created several castes of new tories. In the last 3 elections our choice was a Tory or a Marxist. The next election will be a Tory or a man who doesn't know what a woman is. New Tories don't vote that way because they support NHS cuts.

@peteneville65 @cruncherwax Correct. People who vote Tory often do it FOR the NHS, because they’ve been manipulated into thinking the Tories will help it. They’re absolutely to blame though. The truth isn’t hard to find.

@peteneville65 @cruncherwax They vote Tory because they have been tricked into believing that tories care about them (they don’t) and they are mostly a bit racist so vote to exclude anyone foreign. Boomers are to blame and they are going to suffer first. We need to save the country for Gen x!!

@peteneville65 @cruncherwax Elders vote Tory in greater numbers having built assets which they fear losing to taxation. They do not fully appreciate the Sahara of value they extract from NHS as age increases. Only when it’s too late will many understand it’s loss.. great thread. Thanks for posting

@peteneville65 @cruncherwax They want a health service that works - not a political football. At some point, NHS managers earning far more than the PM/FMs need to be held to account for performance. The NHS takes 12% of our national GDP - higher than most European countries and for worse outcomes.

@peteneville65 @cruncherwax Isn’t it strange that those very people, ie the elderly, who need the NHS the most are the very ones who stop making National Insurance contributions at State Pension age, despite many continuing to receive salaries?

@peteneville65 @cruncherwax Also people don't just understand. Early on, Trump's main goal was to undo Obamacare, a groundbreaking healthcare policy that benefited the most people who voted Trump into the office. Still they opposed it 'cos it was 'socialised medicine'. And then there's #brexit ...

@peteneville65 @cruncherwax I’m 73, but am Scottish, and would not dream of voting Tory. Blame those down south, they are ok with private health care, they can afford it. Let them have it, we’ll take our nhs.
