I interviewed Ricker in April about his efforts to keep afloat. At the end of the conversation, he got kind of fatalistic. To be involved in this world is to view everything from the standpoint that restaurants are this incredible cultural thing," he said.
"But at end of the day, it’s like [Larry David voice]: 'Eh, it’s just a restaurant.' There’s things far more important in this world than restaurants."

Very sorry to read this, he makes very compelling points. Hard decisions will be made all over the world until we get this under control somehow.

What many fail to realize is that 6 weeks ago, when everything was mandated to be shut -- that's when decision making was clear and easy and where, outside NYC, you could do a robust carryout business.
Now, however, as patios reopen and an incoherent set of policies /1

It's worth reading for sure. It won't be the last time we are reading something like this in the near future. Hopefully, with the help of the people, the US economy will be able to recover at the end of the year, and the US can move on from this relative hiccup, to put it nicely.

Imagine the utter despair an owner experiences when they reach this realization, and communicate it to their staff and guests. Every word must be an overwhelming burden.

Andy is so eloquent, and gets to the heart of the limbo we are enduring - needlessly! Trump & his entire band of craven enablers must be removed and until then, we are all Andy. And after that, even with new leadership, it’ll be a long long haul to recovery. MAGA did this.
