Since the #SierraLeone Ethics & Scientific Research Committee didn't approve this study,there is no way to ensure proper informed consent was obtained from d patients whose blood samples were used in this study. Were they aware that their blood would be used 4 research purposes?.

How Chinese researchers are exploiting the weak research governance system in #SierraLeone. In this study,patient blood samples were used &no ethics approval sought from d local IRB. Also,no local collaborator was in d list of authors.@CCDC @seyeabimbola .

It's sad that well-deserved academics from #LMIC continue 2 face visa difficulties 2 attend conferences in developed countries. I recently had similar issues when securing a visa 2 attend a meeting in India. I can relate. @seyeabimbola @paimadhu #globalhealthequity
