I have a new blog post out on rehousing wire recordings. Was a lot of fun to research for this process. Glad to not have to actually play one of these back. I'd be terrified of breaking it. https://t.co/KAfTUozMqa

Most of the wire recordings held at the American Philosophical Society today are in the Floyd Lounsbury Papers—there are 56 in all. These were popular for about a decade starting in the mid-1940s....

I genuinely don't have time right now to think of something for my work at the APS so I'm happy to offload that part to someone else.

This offer still stands. I'm very overloaded right now but for a brief few hours there I'm gonna be free and am looking forward to digging into some boxes for some good reason.
going to the National Anthropological Archives in a couple of weeks, anyone need anything? (i'll be there for half a day supporting others' work, happy to do research to support Indigenous folks, i don't have anything planned at the moment)

I can't work out what it stands for but I've discovered the context at least. Their materials for the production of this volume call a series ASTHoLS (and don't reference SiHoLS). https://t.co/gw9qQh6NXQ

Do any linguists know what ASTHoLS stands for? something ... History of Language Sciences? Is it a previous name for this perhaps? We're talking 1980s. https://t.co/aTTSTAk2z2

69th street station too, the large now-empty hall used to be full of benches, but even then they weren't allowed to be used late at night, when the NHSL & bus wait times really justify a seat. & a new ticket system was a wonderful opportunity to move more seats behind barriers.

SEPTA is very much into hostile architecture. a few years ago they removed all the lower benches at Norristown TC (you can still see the bench-shaped holes). now at Main there's these "armrests" - sawdust not even swept up, uneven spacing.
